Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 6 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Larger Size and Top to Bottom Decoration. The rim boasts two wide cobalt stripes and the ears bear cobalt accents on their terminals. The body of the jar advertises the maker with roses in the top corners, bunches of grapes in the bottom corners, a garland at the top and a larger floral in the middle. The bottom offers two wavy stripes framing the capacity number flanked by leaves, while the bottom edge bears a wide cobalt stripe. Stands 16 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor narrow 1/4" flake on the right handle and some light staining on the back at the bottom. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
