Item 12097
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Wax Sealer that reads, "From James Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Larger 1 Gallon Size, Tooled Grooved Rim for the Hot Wax Sealant, Canted Sides, and Three Bold Stripes at the Top and One at the Bottom Framing the Company Advertising Surrounding a Center Leaf Decoration. The stenciling is complete and crisp, and the darker cobalt forms a pleasing contrast with the light gray glaze. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
It is hard to find this larger size wax sealer by this maker, especially with this much decoration.
Very Good Condition. Two minor nibbles on the bottom ring of the tooled rim, and a center bottom drill hole for a lamp cord and another narrow hole on the bottom from a chip inside (picture of the bottom). Otherwise, as made.
