Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, Pa."  
 
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157). 
 
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Rim with Broad Cobalt Stripe, Two Large Roses on the Shoulder, the Company Advertising in Three Lines of Large Block Letters in the Middle, and Two More Large Roses on the Bottom.  Stands 14 3/4" tall. 
 
Excellent Condition.  Four small chips on the left handle (1/8" to 1/2"), two on the right handle (1/8", 1/4"), and a 1/2" chip below the capacity number.   One small stain on the bottom of the left side. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
