Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. Shepard, Jr., Geddes, N.Y."
Joseph Shepard, Jr. ran a pottery in Geddes (Syracuse) from 1857-1864 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 70).
Circa 1860, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number Underscored by a Tornado, and a Brushed Cobalt Flower. The flower has 15 leaves of various sizes, and a blossom with 4 petals of which 2 are dotted. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor nibble inside the spout and some light staining near the base. That's it! No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
