Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. A. and C. W. Underwood, Fort Edward, N.Y."
This duo ran the pottery in Fort Edward from 1865 to 1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 88).
This beauty features a the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and the main attraction: a Large Bird on a Floral Decoration. The decoration was executed with a Slip Cup in Brilliant Cobalt Blue. The bird is large- 9" from head to tail- and the floral resembles a rose. The decoration is centered on the jug and fills the front. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Scattered light staining. Otherwise, as made!
