Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "W. H. Farrar, Geddes, N.Y."  

 

This is the work of William H. Farrar who worked in Geddes (Syracuse) from as early as 1840 and intermittently until 1868 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, 70).  

 

This beauty features a Large Size, Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand "4" Capacity Number, and a Huge Brushed Cobalt Floral Filling the Front.  A leafy stem with nine leaves yields three tulip blossoms, the top one of which has a dotted center.   All the decoration sports dark, rich, and shiny cobalt. Stands 17 1/4" tall.  

 

Excellent Condition.  A single 1" chip on the underside.  Otherwise, as made!  Super clean.
