Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, PA from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rounded Rim with Accent Stripe, Wavy Stripe at the Shoulder, the Company Advertising Surrounding a Rising Sun Decoration and Accented with Florals in the Upper Corners in the Middle, and the Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves and Underscored with a Cobalt Stripe at the Bottom. Exceptional contrast formed by a light gray glaze and rich cobalt decoration. Stands 11 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Small nibbles around the inner lid seating ring (3/16" or less), and a 1 1/2" surface craze line above the R in Greensboro. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
