Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this splendid 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug with Parrot on a Plume made and stamped by "F. B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Franklin Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1876 ("The F. B. Norton Pottery: Stoneware of Every Description." Worcester Historical Museum, 1980-1981).
This beauty features a Tall and Slender Form, Semi-Squared Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Lean Parrot on a Plume Decoration. The parrot is 8 1/2" tall! This was one of Norton's signature decorations and is typically found with gorgeous cobalt like this jug exhibits. Stands 13 3/4" tall. Comes with an old carved wooden stopper.
Excellent Condition. A 3/4" glaze chip inside the spout and some light staining on the right side. No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
