Item 1009

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Fine 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "F. B. Norton Sons, Worcester, Mass."

This is the work of Frank Norton and his sons who made stoneware in Worcester using this stamp from 1868-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).

This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a fantastic Dove on a Branch Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. The dove has squiggle wing feathers and is perched on an elaborate branch.  The entire decoration is created in strong cobalt blue.  Measures 9 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.

One of the cleanest Norton crocks and best drawn dove decorations that I have ever seen.

Excellent Condition. Two 1/2" flakes on the kiln touch at the front bottom that may be in the making. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Stone ping on the top of the rim on the left side in the making and glazed over (closeup).
