Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Cream Pot made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and a Chyrsanthemum Plant with Six Leaves, Two Buds, and Two Blossoms with Eight Petals Each. Pretty blue used throughout the decoration by a skilled artist. Measures 12" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Good Condition. Six chips on the rim (1/4" to 1"), 1/2" chip on the back of the right handle, two small surface Y-shaped craze lines in the glaze (right of flower and back), and some isolated stains from use. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
