Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 3 Gallon Decorated Ovoid Stoneware Jar.
Its decoration indicates that it was made by Elisha B. Hyssong of Cassville, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He founded the pottery in 1847 and the family ran it until 1912 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 74).
Circa 1850, this beauty features an Ovoid Shape, Tall Rim, Applied Ridged Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, and a Spectacular Vine with Four Blossoms on Each Side in Rich Cobalt. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Slumped in the making.
