Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Jar whose heft and decoration indicate that is was probably made in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Circa 1870, this beauty features Top to Bottom Freehand Decoration. From the top down is a stripe, the "5" capacity number flanked by leaves and underscored with a stripe, and a large vine with three sections of leaves and a tulip blossom with seven petals. Additional cobalt accent at the handle terminals. Stands 16" tall.
Good Condition. Two chips inside the rim (1/2", 3/4"), a narrow 1 1/4" chip under the left handle, and a faint X on the underside coming up as a small T below the vine (closeup). Only the T is visible inside. No outer rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
