Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped for the merchant, "C. W. Skinner, Elmira, N.Y."  Charles Skinner was a potter in Rochester and Fulton, NY, but there is no record of this potter in Elmira.  (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State 1650-1900, pp. 317, 388). Thus I am assuming this Skinner is a merchant

 

Comes fresh from a farmhouse in Wellsville, N.Y. 

 

Circa 1870, this beauty features the Merchant Stamp with Cobalt Wash on the Shoulder and a Light Gray Salt Glaze.  Stands 10" tall.

 

Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind.
