Item 9248
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous Blue and White Stoneware Spongeware Pitcher in the Girl and Dog Pattern.
It was made by the Logan Pottery of Logan, Ohio.
As you know, this pitcher is rare in the more typical blue and white, but even rarer in the spongeware. Taylor and Lowrance in Salt Glaze Stoneware call the spongeware version "one degree beyond extremely rare" (p. 42).
Dating to the early 20th century, this beauty features an Oval Medallion on Each Side that Hosts a Young Girl on the Right Feeding Her Dog as He Rears up on His Hind Legs on the Left. The sponging is structured in 7 horizontal columns of 5 daubs. The blue is a very unusual and pleasant shade. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
Comes from my private collection.
Excellent Condition. A single 1/4" chip inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
