Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Large 4 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Chollar, Darby & Co., Homer."
This is the work of Thomas Chollar and Josephy Darby who owned the pottery in Homer, New York from 1836 to 1844 when Darby retired and the pottery was sold (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 313-317).
This beauty sports a Large Size, Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Tulip Decoration. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two 1/2" chips on the back of the rim, a 2 1/2" chip on the bottom of the right side, and water glass staining from use. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
