Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Running Bird with a Long Fantail Proudly Poised on a Branch. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This birdie has 7 tailfeathers. Measures 9 3/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Fair Condition. Water glass rings and a 2" colored chip inside (closeup). Three hairlines from the rim: in front of the left handle (4"), front to the bird's head (4"), and above the right handle (1 1/2"). Exfoliation on the underside. Staining from use. No outer rim chips or restoration.
