Item 13175
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon Stoneware Jar attributed to Stephen Ward
of West Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
Stephen Ward took over the pottery of Offord and Federer in West Brownsville in 1867 and ran it until about 1880. He only worked 6 months a year with a two man crew, so not many pieces were made and fewer survive (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 174).
This beauty features a Cobalt Stripe around the Rim and a Ward Patriotic Shield Set within a Bed of Ribbons and Dots. A delicate stencil that is complete on this jar. Stands 8 1/4" tall
Excellent Condition. Minor nibbles around the bottom ripple of the tooled rim and some light scattered staining. That's it! No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
