Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Bartop Matchsafe & Striker made for the "American Brew. Co., Rochester, N.Y."
 
Matchsafes this large size were used atop bars and other public places.
 
This beauty was made by the Whites Pottery of Utica, N.Y. between 1890 and 1907 when they made such wonderful molded stoneware.
 
You can see a similar matchsafe in The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware by Christopher Bensch on p. 54.
 
This beauty features a Double Beaded Border on the Top a Greek Key Border on the Bottom with the Company Advertising in a Shield atop an Eagle on Both Sides.  All the debossed elements of the design are filled with cobalt and the advertising strongly impressed.  Measures 4 3/4" tall and 6 1/4" wide across the bottom.  
 
Excellent Condition. Some staining on the underside.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
