Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar whose geometric decoration indicates that it was made by Alexander Conrad of New Geneva, Pennsylvania.
Conrad ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1870-1882 before moving to Shinnston, WV (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-65).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Top and Bottom Stripe that Frame Three Fancy Geometric Emblems Down the Front. All the stenciling is complete and crisp. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some staining on the back and two chips on the bottom edge in the back (1/2", 1 1/4"). No rim chips, hairlines, cracks or restoration.
