Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 1 Gallon Wax Sealer Canning Jar whose decoration makes it easy attribute to Isaac Hewitt.
Hewitt made stoneware in Rices Landing, Pennsylvania in the 1860's and 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 158-159).
This beauty features a Full Gallon Size, Carefully Tooled Rim and Shoulder, and Eight Cobalt Stripes down the Front that Alternate between Straight and Wavy. This alternating stripe pattern is a standard feature of Hewitt stoneware. Sharp contrast between the light gray glaze and the bright cobalt stripes. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Staining on the bottom of the left side. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
This is a superb example for larger size, contrast, and condition. And it is an 8 Striper!
