Item 11904

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Churn made by "Williams & Reppert, Greensboro, PA."

This is the work of William Williams and Thomas Reppert who worked together from 1880-1884 and again after 1890 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp 157-58).

This beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration.  From the top down are a straight stripe framing the rim, another straight stripe accenting the shoulder, freehand vining cascading across the top while riding a wavy stripe, the company advertising surrounding a flower and framed by flowers and comma vining, a freehand capacity number flanked by leaves, and a broad stripe at the bottom completing the decoration.  Additional cobalt at the handle terminals.  Stands 18" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Even wear around the inner lid-seating ring, a 1/2" chip inside the rim, mild chipping under the left handle, and a 6" in-body hairline on the back that does not reach top or bottom (3" either side of my pen in the closeup).  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Mottled glaze in places in the making.
