Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 6 Gallon Stoneware Crock made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features an Uncommon Crock Form, Thick Rounded Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, and a Thick Top and Bottom Stripe framing the Company Advertising Surrounding a Cluster of Grapes on the Vine and the Capacity Number Flanked by Wings. Measures 14" tall and 12 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 3/4" chip on the back of the left handle, and some light scattered staining. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
