Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 8 Gallon Double-Handled Jar.
The decoration indicates that this is the work of John Weaver who made stoneware in Beaver, Pennsylvania from the late 1840's to about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 113).
Dating around 1860, this beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Thick Rounded Rim, Double Handles, and the Capacity Number Riding a Tornado and Flanked by Spiral Twists. Rich and shiny cobalt. Stands 19" tall.
Good Condition. A 6" hairline from the rim on the front left (closeup1 ) and a 9" hairline from the rim in the back right (closeup 2). Otherwise, as made. No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
