Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 4 Gallon Jar with Tulip Garland.
The decoration bears a close resemblance to pieces by Henry K. Atchison of New Geneva, PA. Atchison build his pottery in New Geneva in the 1850's and ran it until injuries in the Civil War incapacitated him (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 160-161).
This beauty features Two Broad Cobalt Stripes at the Top and a Tulip Garland that Flows and Loops Across the Middle in Atchison style. There are 38 leaves and 4 tulip blossoms. The cobalt is rich and the artistry impressive. Stands 14 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some very light staining. Otherwise, as made. A 1/2" drying/firing line on the front terminal of the left handle in the making.
