Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 4 Gallon Stoneware Oyster Jar made and stamped by "F. B. Norton Sons, Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Four of Franklin Norton's Sons who ran the family pottery from 1886 to 1894 ("The F. B. Norton Pottery: Stoneware of Every Description." Worcester Historical Museum, 1980-1981).
This monumental jar was made for the "Conductor's Room, B. & A. R. R., Boston." This jar was made for the Conductors of the Boston and Albany Railroad for the Boston Office. I am not sure if I want oysters in my company lounge?!
This beauty features an Oyster Jar Form, Large 4 Gallon Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Three Lines of Large Cobalt Script. Stands 17 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two side-by-side short hairlines from the rim (1", 2 1/4"- closeup). Otherwise, as made.
