Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this attractive 2 Gallon Crock marked "Cortland."
This is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Pair of Tulips Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral boasts a bulb, leafy stem, and two blossoms. Measured 9 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Two minor nibbles inside the rim and a 1/2" chip outside the rim, a narrow 1" chip under the left handle and two chips on the right handle (3/8", 3/4"), and a 3" hairline from the rim in the back (closeup). No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
