Item 12709

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 2 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Wm. E. Warner, West Troy."

This is the mark of William E. Warner who ran a pottery in West Troy, N.Y. from the 1840's until 1871 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 67-68).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash in Large Letters on the Front Rim, and an Extraordinary Elaborate Thistle Floral Created with a Slip Cup.  A stem with three curly leaves holds up two thistle flowers.   The cobalt is dark, rich, and shiny.  Measures 9 3/4" tall and 8" wide across the top.

It is quite obvious that this decoration was also used by the Norton Pottery in Bennington, Vermont in the 1850's.  Not where if the decorator left Bennington for West Troy or vice versa.  But there is a connection!

Very Good Condition.  A 5/8" colored chip inside the rim and a faint hairline on the underside (closeup).  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
