Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Wm. E. Warner, West Troy."
This is the mark of William E. Warner who ran a pottery in West Troy, N.Y. in the 1840's and 1850's (William C. Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 67-68).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Tall Rim with Tooled Shoulder, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Two Leaves and a Blossom with Eight Petals. All the cobalt is bright and shiny and looks fantastic on the clean, light gray glaze. Measures 8 3/4" tall and 6 3/4" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Some thin water glass rings inside. No chips, hairlines, cracks, outer stains, or restoration. Very clean glaze.
