Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Woodpecker an Orchid Branch. This birdy sports a pointy beak, and 4 prominent tail feathers. The orchid branch has 2 leaves, a blossom, and 5 buds. The decoration was executed with a slip cup using bright and shiny cobalt. Measures 9 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Three small flakes/chips on the rim (1/8" to 3/8"), two 1/4" chips under the left handle, and a 1/4" chip on the underside at the edge. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
