Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70.
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and an Orchid Blossom. This was a favorite decoration for this pottery. Stands 11" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" ping on the spout, two 1/2" chips on the underside at the edge, and some staining from use. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Bubbled cobalt in the making.
