Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar with Floral made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70.
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
The hole at the top of each handle was for a wire mechanism that held down a fit-over the top lid.
Very Good Condition. Water glass ring near the top inside, a 1 1/4" chip on the underside at the edge on the left side, and some scattered light staining. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
