Item 11619

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites Binghamton."

This is one of the marks of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Pottery in Utica, N.Y.  He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 for his father-in-law, and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 71).

This beauty features a Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and an Elaborate Poppy Decoration for which this pottery was known.  The poppy features nine base leaves and a blossom with a center of five sections surrounded by eight dotted petals.  The decoration is executed with a slip cup in bright and shiny cobalt.  Stands 10 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1" chip on the underside at the edge.  That's it!  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some cobalt loss in the decoration in the making from bubbles.
