Item 9956

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug stamped "Whites Binghamton."

This is work of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71)

This beauty features a Tall and Narrow Form with Squared Spout, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large Brushed Cobalt Double Orchid Decoration Filling the Front with Blue.  The orchid had a double stem with 12 leaves and two blossoms-- all in bright and shiny cobalt.  This was a signature design for Whites.  Stands 15" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A faint small stain on the left side and a 1 1/4" chip on the right side at the bottom.  That's it!  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.   A drying/firing line at the base of the handle and two stone pings on the right side at the bottom in the making.
