Item 10567

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "White & Wood."

This is the mark of Noah White of Whites Pottery in Utica, N.Y. who ran the satellite pottery in Binghamton, New York from 1848-1888.  He had a brief association with a mysterious man named Wood as reflected in this stamp (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).

This beauty features the pottery stamp and a Large Paddletail Bird on an Orchid Branch Decoration.  The artist outlined the decoration with a slip cup and then filled in the decoration with a brush.  The cobalt is strong, smooth, and shiny, and contrasts well with the light glaze.  Stands 14 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Two small chips inside the spout (1/8", 1/4"), a nibble and 1/8" chip outside the spout, a 1/2" chip and some staining on the bottom of the left side, and a nearly invisible surface craze line from the bird's beak through the flower (closeup).  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
