Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "W. Roberts, Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty features a Thick Tooled Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Dotted "Flyinig" Orchid Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. This was a signature decoration for W. Roberts. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A couple 2" surface craze lines and some exfoliation on the underside. No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
