Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Butter Crock with Comma Vining.
It is easy to attribute this crock to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Tooled Squared Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accents at the Terminals, and Brushed Cobalt Comma Vining on Each Side. Bright cobalt on a light gray glaze for maximum visual appeal. Measures 5 1/4 tall and 8 1/4" wide across the top.
