Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Cute 1 Gallon Decorated Jug stamped "Cortland."
The decoration indicates that this is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Cobalt Double Tulip Decoration. Two tulip blossoms are poised bottom to bottom with two leaves on perpendicular angles. Bright cobalt accompanies this creative design. Stands 10"
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" chip on the spout and scattered light staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Shallow chipping on the left side of the spout in the making, and spout leans slightly left in the making.
