Item 7708
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Satterlee & Mory, Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the stamp of George Satterlee and Michael Mory who ran this pottery together from 1859-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty sports a Semi-Squared Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Brushed Cobalt Bird on a Plume Decoration. The bird is 9" from the tip of its beak to the tip of its tail. Strong and shiny cobalt throughout the decoration. Measures 12" tall and 12 1/2' wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 3/16" flake under the left handle, four small Y-shaped surface craze lines on the back (closeup of 1), and scattered small strains. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Remarkable for a straight-sided, open crock of this size!
