Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, is this Large 5 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Riedinger & Caire, Poughkeepsie, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Philip Riedinger and Adam Caire of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. who partnered in stoneware from 1857 to 1878 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 65).
This beauty features a Large Size, Pottery Stamp, and a Huge Brushed Cobalt Floral that is 10" by 10"! The floral is a single blossom with six petals cradled in leaves and topped off with a dotted "finial." Bright cobalt throughout. Stands 18 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the spout, some roughness on the top of the spout on the right side, and a 1" chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Exceptionally clean.
