    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this unusual Redware Cat on a Base. 

     

    It is attributed to Peters and Reed of Zanesville, Ohio.  John D. Peters and Adam Reed began this pottery in 1899 and ran it until 1921.  See James Murphy, "Art Pottery Archaeology: The Enduring Enigma of Peters and Reed."  The Journal of the American Art Pottery Association.  Vol. 16, no. 6, pp. 8-14. 

     

    This piece was once in the collection of James Murphy.

     

    Dating to the early 20th century, this cat features a Black Mirrored Finish with Cold Painted Red on the Eyes and Mouth.  Stands 10 1/2" tall and the base is 5 1/2" by 6".  

     

    Good Condition.  A 1/4" chip on the left side at the top, a 3/8" chip on the back left of the base, and a 1" flat chip on the bottom of the base.  The tips of both ears have had restoration with some rechipping, and a 3/4" flat chip on the right front top of the base is also restored.  No hairlines, cracks, or stains. 

     

    There is an old sticker inside that reads, "Keller Floral Co. Lexington.  At the Sign of the Rose."
