Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Campbell, Penn Yan." 
 
This is the work of George Campbell who introduced stoneware manufacture into his father's redware pottery in Penn Yan, New York around 1850.  He sold the pottery to J. Mantell in 1854.  Marked examples are rare (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 72-73).
 
This is the only the second example of this potter's work that I have ever had to sell. 
 
This beauty features the Semi-Ovoid Form, Incised Shoulder, Applied Handle with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Brushed Cobalt Double Tulip Decoration.  The tulip features a long stem with 10 leaves and two dotted blossoms with 6 petals each.  
 
Excellent Condition.  A 1/8" nip by the handle with a faint 1 1/2" surface craze line above it (closeup). That's it!  No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains. or restoration.
