Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 5 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "D. Melcher, Parish P.O., Desmoines Co., Iowa." 
 
It was made by the brothers David and Dennis Melcher who established their pottery in 1848 and  ran it until the 1870's when their sons took over (William C. Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 151). 
 
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp under the Rim and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Four Looped Leaves and Two Blossoms with Four Petals Each.  Stands 16 1/2" tall.
 
Very Good Condition. Minor nibbles on the inner lid seating ring, a narrow 1" chip inside the rim, and a nearly invisible 3 1/2" hairline from the rim to the right of the pottery stamp (closeup).  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
