Item 9879
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and--the Main Attraction--a Large Exuberant Floral Bouquet in Brilliant Cobalt that Fills the Front! Two roses beam in the center surrounded by leaves from which dotted tendrils launch in all directions. Even has a little bow at the bottom tying the bouquet together. Stands 17 1/2" tall. Comes with a churn guide just slightly too large that does not quite sit on the rim inside, but looks great.
Excellent Condition. A small stain under the left handle. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Exceptionally clean. The lid has a 1" chip inside the top rim.
