Item 11164
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Butter Crock made by "R. T. Williams, Manufacturer, New Geneva." [PA]
This is the work of Robert T. Williams who worked in New Geneva, PA from 1882 to 1895 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 168-170).
This beauty features a Tooled Rim with a Groove for Tying a Cover Over the Top, a Top and Bottom Stripe, the Company Advertising in Large Letters in the Middle, and a Large Freehand Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves at the Bottom. Measures 8 1/2" by 10".
This piece was fired with wood and not coal as Wiliams later used, so it has a light coloration and bold, dark cobalt-- a combination that provides strong contrast.
Very Good Condition. A nearly invisible 4" hairline from the rim behind the right handle (closeup). Otherwise, as made.
