Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1Gallon Butter Crock made and stamped by "Evan R. Jones, Pittston, Pa."

 

Jones potted in Pittston in the 1870's and 1880's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 34-37).

 

This beauty features a Semi-Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder Banding, Applied Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip.  Measures 5 1/5" tall and 9 3/4" wide across the top. 

 

Good Condition.  Minor nibbles and six small chips outside the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), a faint 2" hairline from the rim in the front center, and a 1" hairline on the back bottom that wraps under 3".  No inner rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Glaze loss in the cobalt in the making.
