Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and signed by "N. Kelley, New Castle, Lawrence, Penn."
 
Nelson Kelly was a pottery from Beaver, Pennsylvania who worked for a time for a potter in New Castle.  This piece is pictured and discussed in Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 129.  This is the only known piece from New Castle signed by this potter.  It was once part of the Earl and Beth Trimble collection. 
 
This beauty features a Shiny Glossy Gray Glaze with the Pottery Information in Script in Four Vertical Rows of Rich Cobalt.  A most unusual way to decorate.  Stands 12 1/2" tall. 
 
Very Good Condition.  Traces of water glass staining inside, a narrow 3" chip on the bottom edge, and a 5" line on the underside near the edge not seen inside (closeup).  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, outer stains, or restoration.
