Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful early 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "N. Clark & Co., Lyons."
This is the work of Nathan Clark who ran the pottery in Athens, New York and a satellite pottery in Lyons, New York from 1822 to 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66, 73).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp, and a Brushed Cobalt Capacity Number and Tulip Decoration. The tulip has five leaves that supports a left-leaning blossom with dotted center. Rich and shiny cobalt. Stands 15" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip at the base and some staining from use. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
