Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Large 5 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "N. Clark, Jr., Athens, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Nathan Clark, Jr. of Athens, N.Y. who ran the family pottery from 1843-1891 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66).
This beauty sports a Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Brushed Cobalt Floral Decoration. The floral boasts a leafed stem, two striped leaves, and two blossoms with eight petals each. The floral is 10" tall from the tip of a flower to the bottom of the stem. Stands 18" tall.
It was drilled on the bottom of the left side. The hole viewed inside is stained indicating it was not used as a lamp, but as a cooler.
Very Good Condition. Two small chips inside the spout (1/8", 3/8") and a 1/2" drilled hole on the bottom of the left side. No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 3/4" narrow void on the back near the bottom where straw burned out in the making.
