Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "M. Woodruff, Cortland."
This is the work of Madison Woodruff who ran the pottery in Cortland, New York from 1849-1885 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71).
This beauty sports a Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and Two Brushed Cobalt Tulips. The tulips emerge from four leaves and sport blossoms with 8-10 petals. Stands 11" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, and a 1 1/2" vertical hairline from "Cortland" to the tulip (closeup). That's it! No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains or restoration.
