Item 6180
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar stamped "Lyons."
The shape and decoration make it most likely that this is the work of Thompson Harrington who ran the pottery in Lyons from 1852 to 1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp 73-74).
This beauty features a Preserve Jar Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number "2", and a Large Brushed Cobalt Oak Leaf. The leaf has a most pleasing bold and shiny cobalt! Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. Some wear and small chips around the inner rim where a lid would sit, a 1/4" chip below the right handle, and a fine hairline at the rim that stops at the inner rim (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration. The bottom is slightly convex in the making.
